Andrew Sawyer is the former Chief Investment Officer of the Maine Public Employees Retirement System, where he served from February 2007 to November 2019. During his tenure, Andrew demonstrated exceptional leadership in managing the System’s investment portfolio, bringing a wealth of experience in asset management, institutional investments, and portfolio management. His strategic oversight and deep understanding of investment strategies played a crucial role in the growth and stability of the System’s assets.
After leaving the Maine Public Employees Retirement System, Andrew continued to leverage his expertise in various senior advisory roles. He currently serves as a Senior Advisor at Stonepeak Infrastructure Partners and as a Senior Strategic Advisor for Business Development at LongTail Alpha, LLC. Additionally, Andrew is an active member of several boards and committees, including the Maine Medical Center Investment Committee, where he has contributed his investment acumen since 2009.
Andrew’s career also includes significant roles in both the public and private sectors. Prior to his work in Maine, he was a Portfolio Manager at a multinational bank and held leadership positions at Raytheon, where he managed pensions and investments, and at Fuji Bank Ltd., where he headed the Corporate Trust Department. His diverse experience has equipped him with a broad perspective on the complexities of investment management and financial oversight.
Andrew’s academic background includes an MBA in Finance from Pace University and a BA in Business Administration/Finance from the University of Maine. At the University of Maine, he was Captain of the Varsity Ski Team, a member of the Senior Skulls Society, and a brother of Sigma Chi Fraternity. He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation, the Alternative Investment Analyst Charter (CAIA Charter), and several certifications from the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, including Flotilla Staff Officer – Finance and Limited Master. Additionally, he is a certified Wilderness First Responder and has completed Avalanche Training Level 1.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Andrew is committed to education and public service. He has served as an adjunct professor at the University of Southern Maine, teaching undergraduate investment management, and has been actively involved with the Holderness School as a Board Member and Investment Committee Chair. Andrew holds a deep passion for contributing to the financial community and continues to provide thought leadership through his various roles. His expertise and dedication have made him a respected figure in the investment management industry.
