Eric Newman, CPA, CGMA, is a seasoned finance professional with extensive experience in treasury management, corporate finance, and investment oversight. He currently serves as the Treasury Manager for the City of Stamford, Connecticut, where he plays a critical role in strategic treasury management and oversees the city’s financial operations. In this capacity, he provides financial insights to balance risk and opportunity, supports strategic decisions, and enhances profitability management through interest rate yield optimization. Eric’s expertise extends to managing short-term and medium-term duration investments, ensuring compliance with investment policies, and optimizing working capital.

In addition to his role as Treasury Manager, Eric holds significant responsibilities as Vice Chairman and Trustee on several pension boards, including the Other Post-Employment Benefit (OPEB) Board, the Classified Employees Retirement Fund Board, and the Defined Contribution Retirement Plan Board for the City of Stamford. As Vice Chairman and Trustee of the OPEB Board, Eric oversees a defined benefit plan with $289 million in assets under management, allocated across global equities, fixed income, real estate, and private equity. His risk management skills are essential in managing the plan’s long-term liability obligations and ensuring the financial security of over 4,000 plan participants.

Eric’s leadership extends to his role as Trustee of the Classified Employee Retirement Fund, where he oversees a $309 million portfolio with 1,473 plan participants. His responsibilities include reviewing and approving retirements, monitoring investment performance, and participating in change management initiatives to improve the plan’s funding status. He also serves on the Deferred Compensation Committee, managing defined contribution plans with $180 million in assets.

Eric’s extensive experience includes serving as Secretary and former Chairman of Stamford’s Investment Advisory Committee, where he has been instrumental in managing a fixed income portfolio ranging from $180 million to $345 million in assets under management. His contributions to the financial stability and strategic direction of the city’s investment portfolios have been invaluable.

Eric’s involvement in the broader financial community includes roles on various advisory boards, such as the Africa Institutional Investor Advisory Council and the AIF Trustee Advisory Board. He has also served as a delegate on USAID’s MiDA U.S. Institutional Investor Delegations to several African nations, contributing to the expansion of investment opportunities in Sub-Saharan Africa. With a strong academic background that includes an MBA in Finance from Sacred Heart University and ongoing postgraduate studies at Harvard University in international portfolio management and global development, Eric Newman continues to be a leader in the field of public finance and investment management.
